I have a friend with an 01 Cavalier 4 door, looking for a cd player. I have access to a factory deck from a 2000 cavalier. Anyone know if these will be plug and play from the factory? Thanks!

It should. All of the wiring harnesses that I've come across are for 2000 and up GM vehicles. As long as it has the standard stereo system. If it has the Bose system, I'm not sure about it.

Great, thanks. GM told me they will need to reprogram the car's computer, so that it knows that there is a cd player in place of the radio. About $50. I wonder if unplugging the battery for 1/2 hour would have the same effect? Anyone?

no it needs to be reprogramed cause the vin number of the vehicle is programed into the deck as a security feature. if you plug it in the deck will just say locked.
