CDA 9886 + CDA 9884 Troubleshooting

A friend of mine owns a CDA 9884 deck and I myself own the 9886. So we were tuning his system today, and I came up with the clever idea of seeing whether my 9886 faceplate would work on his 9884 deck.

Needless to say, when we did that, there was no display.

So I go ahead and put mine back on my deck, and he does the same with his faceplate. When we turn the headunit back on, his 9884 has no display, and the illumition is flashing on and off at a fast pace. So we hit the reset button, thinking all would be good. Nothing changes, the dek still has no display and now none of his buttons on his faceplat NOR remote work. He only has the ability to control the volume.

I right away check my headunit after this happens. Turns out I have no display either, but my illumition is fine and all my buttons work, both on the faceplate and remote.

Now I know this was probably a really stupid idea, but why did this happen?

Any comments will help, and flame all you want, cause I know I fcuked up

well i have no idea why but try cutting the power completely. Take the negative battery terminal off and push on the brake pedal for a few seconds just to take any of the remaining electricity away. Hook er back up and see if it helps.

That's about the only good thing about big box stores. The department people generally don't know much about their products, and will take them back for about any reason. Walmart being the best for this. I often 'rent' power tools from them.

LOL i know what you mean.

Technically according to Alpine USA, they do warrenty the deck if it has to do with the display not working. Hopefully all goes well when I go there 9am in the morning

This is the First post from you in a long time, where your not being cocky...You accepted your mistake I commend you on this...

I would try to disconnect the ground for your deck(actually take it off) for a few seconds, hard reseting, and worst case you get a new deck!! About your buddy though, that could suck for him!!(unless he has a warranty too)

LOL. Man the only reason I'm often a ***** on the forums is to try and liven up the website...

I want people to be like, "man, I wonder if jalat has flamed anyone else today in that thread he posted last night"

Now on the flip side, I'm obviously going to dominate 139.9 bassrace next year, and win every damn trophy I can 'til my dad snaps at the fact every window sill in the house has a damn trophy on it.

All in all, love me or hate me...

And yes, hopefully all goes well tommorow at bestbuy

I'm surprised the headunits were damaged by this. I've had people do this with other brands and it either works or it doesn't but nothing has been damaged by it.
