Wow this guys website is linking booming car stereo's to drug dealings, murders, and criminal activities. This site is to stop car audio.

I think these guys are exaggerating a bit too much:
Some good information on the website, though: "when the loudness crosses 120 - 125 decibels, the brain of those inside the car begins releasing endorphins, which can make you feel pretty good".

You are prevented from performing business or personal endeavors (such as listening to your own music) even when you are IN YOUR OWN HOME, WITH YOUR WINDOWS AND DOORS SHUT, AND YOUR HEADPHONES ON!

When I 'm in my car listening to my favourite music and some punk *** drives up to me with his boom box playing at full volume, it bugs the hell out of me.
I understand what these people are saying. In Canada it's not a big deal, but in the States where there's ten times the population, the problem is tenfold (duh). I hang out with SPL'ers, and I understand what they're into, but it's not the same as going around purposely bothering people, showing off, etc on the streets.
A little boom is OK, but some people take it to the Nth degree. They are the ones who bring down the heat on all of us. These people don't realize that when they get noticed for their excessive boom, the reaction they get is very negative and very few people are impressed.
In Vancouver, there is a by-law that they enforce on Robson Street. People on Robson (very trendy high end area full of tourists) were getting fed up with loud vehicles driving up and down Robson Street for the sole purpose of showing off their cars and motorcycles. The people on the streets welcomed the extra enforcement. The street is no longer crawling with cops writing out tickets. Driving around beating your hairy chest cro-magnon style on Robson Street is simply not a cool thing to do.
As for the loud noise connected to drugs and stuff.......... it's easy for the public to come to that conclusion.
We here on this forum need to help find solutions, because the backlash from the public is growing and it will start to affect ALL of us. Pretty soon they will legislate something that will prevent or limit the sales of high wattage amplifiers. Something none of us want.
This reminds me of what happened to street racing over the past three or so years - the kind that is organized and take place in industrial parks and back roads. These races are underground and do not endanger the public. Not legal, mind you, but controlled. News of people being run over and killed on public roads due to "stop light" street racing have brought down trouble to all street racing. Up until idiots started to race on public roads, the organized street races were allowed to run without too much police attention. The police were aware of the back road races and left the participants alone - as long as there were no signs of drinking. We racers had an understanding with the police. Well, since The Fast and the Furious came out, every Tom, Dick, and Harry thought they were Vin Diesel. Places where we raced began to fill up by the hundreds (spectators). Along with the crowd came the idiots..... loud sound systems, riced out cars, and of course, liquor and drugs, fights and dumb-*** burnouts - sending smoke signals to the cops. Now the cops are out in force on Friday and Saturday nights harrassing everybody and anybody who gathers to talk about their cars at the local Timmy Ho's parking lots.
Thanks a lot...... IDIOTS!!
This rather long message is not here to start any flames. I like loud music, too. I'm just pointing out that before this anti-boom car thing gets out of hand, we better start discussing how to deal with the growing hate for it by the public before it's too late. Posting that these people who create these web sites are crazy is not going to help - only fuel the fire.
We need to agree with them and help them find solutions. I've found that most people I've met on this board are responsible citizens. They do not crank up their stereos beyond a reasonable volume.

It is usually a few out there ruining it for everyone... and their website says why don't we do something about them? Well, we can't really make anyone turn their stereo down. It's always the 16-20 year old kid driving down the road thinking he is a gangster...
This was a favorite quote I found too...
Yeah, I guess this could be taken seriously, if you live in Compton.
I hate it when people drive by my house thumping too. But, I can ignore it. This site makes it sound like these people drop to the floor and go into seizures because a car with bass drives by for five seconds.
Stupid site.

You are leery of confronting an offender for fear you might be shot. (Yup. There are definite criminal ties here.)

Me too, I can ignore it. Maybe for some of these people it's more than five seconds. Or, five seconds every minute from dusk to dawn.
I grew up in the Ghetto. I lived on top of a disco/night club with heavy bass and neon flashing lights outside my bedroom window. Nothing bothers me. Well......... not true. Ever since I've moved out into the suburbs, I haven't had a good night's sleep in twelve years. Those freakin' frogs croaking and crickets mating - cripes, give me ambulance and cop car sirens and street fighting sounds to give me some decent sleep! Gawd, I miss the city.
As far as confronting the punk who's playing their music loud, there is nothing you can do. I was hoping to at least find ways in which we can promote car stereo in a more positive light. The joy of experiencing crystal clear sound, the challenge with integrating the equipment with the rest of the car, the creativity involved, etc.
When I come up to the owner of a boom box, I start off by saying stuff like.... I think your system lacks mid-bass. BTW, what amps are you running? How many watts? I think your sound system would sound much nicer if you tuned it so you have more.......... if the guy seems level headed, I continue. If he's just a dumb-*** punk (and he's not too much bigger than me - and no weapon), I make him feel like **** -- you got what for amps? Hahahahaha.... no wonder your system sounds so ghetto. Turn down the bass, man, it's embarrasing! Go out to the shows and see/hear what a real system sounds like. I did this to a punk who parks next to where I work. He never has his stereo blasting when he enters the parking lot anymore.
Yeah, yeah...... one day I'll get shot or beat up, but it was fun nonetheless.
