Someone can correct me if im wrong but i know my alpine 505 cannot be synced with an iphone listening to music off of it and still work via bluetooth aswell as a phone. Its one or the other and you cant do both at the same time. If its plugged into the deck it is seen as an ipod(loses phone function) not sure about other deck manufactures but if that is what you want it for i would definatly look into it further.

The only way to get phone and music options is using Bluetooth, not sure with Alpine but pioneer has some issues with iPhone over Bluetooth which leads me to believe it's an iPhone issue

I just use a bluetooth headset and plug my iPhone in for music. When a call comes in it mutes the deck and rings through a speaker until I answer the headset.

As a dealer for other brands, I am sure he could relay a few. How about some stories about JVC decks losing their bluetooth connectivity or Pioneer and noise?

All brands have challenges.
