I understand a couple CCA members have picked up the Clarion DXZ955MC. While I'm not intereted in the DD5.1 and DVD changer controls, I am interested in an SQ deck with TA and xovers. The 3-band para eq is perhaps the one thing not going for this deck.
I'd love to hear opinions from those that have heard it or owned it.

really? no one?
i should have said more specifically 'a poor man's SQ deck', as i see there are those with 9255's, f#1's, cd7000's, nak's, etc. a gentleman has to start somewhere. if he starts at the top... where does he go? ( ;

I got one from Smartass
It's a nice deck. Still playing around with it, it's been in my car for a couple weeks but I havent really got my whole setup going yet.
things I like - many bells and whistles, music catcher seems like it will be a cool feature, lots of filter and xover options, many of which I've not even toyed with yet.
Things I do not like - honestly, the touch screen is a sort of double edged sword, it's a pain when driving, until you ge tthe hang of it and 'learn' the deck. I did not like the subwoofer adjustment (until I realized it was my amp tuning that wasn't set up right :P) now it's ok, or will be once it warms up enough for me to go outdoors and fix it. Not a ton of display options, or again, maybe I haven't figured them out yet. I also dont lik ethe way the face snaps onto the HU after removal. again, this is something you need to 'learn' on a deck, but my clumsy paws have broken items far more substantial than this....I'll just be extra careful.
Put it this way bottom line - It's a nice looking deck with a lot of features for a very low price. A comparable Eclipse is something I'd consider, but I went with this one because I didn't feel like giving FS my Eclipse money, and was learning the joys of internet shopping....
I like the deck so far. I had a JVC KDSH99 for like 6 years prior to this, so I tend to keep something for a long tim eif I like it, and so far so good.
Honestly, arent going to get a brand new deck for the price that has all the features, unless you dig up a sweet deal somewhere.
Happy shopping

thanks buffdaddy. lots of good information. i appreciate hearing both the good and the bad. honestly though, when i hear things like 'you get a lot of features for the price' i get a little cautious. my experience with technology is that new (and generally immature) add-ons are often the failing point of an otherwise well-made, mature product. i'm not saying that the 955 is that product, but i may stick with something less feature-rich. 3-way xovers, a flexible eq and possibly TA are all i need.
but i remember the sh99! i looked at it when i was search for a new deck in... 2002??. give or take a year. it was a good deck for the price.
