My dvd has coaxial output for 5.1 surround sound, My PHX 700 alpine processor has analog inputs which induce noise( from what I've heard) and digital inputs. What I need is to go from coaxial to digital is there such a cable? Or something I can buy for this option?

You can only go from toslink to coax, they are used alot in home audio. I have seen a coxial to toslink adaptor, for roughly $100 cnd. But my thinking is $100 part in a $1500 headunit/eq. I really wanted to use my eclipse head units with the 700 but I ran into the same problem. The only headunits I know of with toslink are: Alpine and Clairon (top of model only). So it is really interesting. I have seen an Audiobahn piece that has a preamp that has coax to toslink adaptor and I am looking into it as we speak. I picked up a 7996 from alpine just because it has toslink out. Also with the adaptor I saw, I don't understand how you can go from light signal(digital) to Analog...

Coaxial does transmit digital as long as the cable is terminated with 75ohm connectors.

I take it the DVD player has digital co-ax out (orange in home audio) and the processor only has tos-link (squarish connector)in?

It is orange, never used this type before I guess I should first go look hey, been reading the Manuel, the analog hook ups were good enough for testing but if I'm going to put in center channel and 5.1 I need the digital option..

There are coax to toslink converters out there.. but they are powered...

John, Talk to John... He can probably do something for you.

James, My sony C90 does toslink output, if your interested (Im selling it). Just need to find the sony connector.

Converting from Coax to optical you will lose some quality in the conversion, this has been documented by several home audio sources.

If you can get a deck with the same output as the processor's input you will be better off, but the lose is not always noticable................

In cars that conversion point can also be a place for noise to be induced and they don't make isolators for optical
