compact subs?

^ To some extent, but you'd really have to screw it up. Think of it this way: if you have a properly sealed box, there should be almost zero air movement in or out of the box (it's not going to be absolutely airtight, but darn close). So what happens when that speaker starts to move? It compresses and expands the air, like a plunger in a toilet.

If you have a properly sized box, then the sub will have no trouble moving the air around the box. If your box is too big, your sub will still move the air but the air will resonate funny, distorting the sound. If the box is too small, however, the pressure inside that box increases.

What results is the pressure inside the box will start to exert more and more pressure on the woofer cone as it moves. The sub wants to move a certain distance, but suction or pressure will prevent it from doing so. The voice coil could be damaged because it's not moving through it's desired range of motion and will not cool properly.

Also, the sound will be quieter since your excursion is less. So you might try to give it a little more power, and can burn the coil that way too.

ok how about this, lets say i went with a Bassworx [SW10B] What options would i have in terms of 10" sub to load into that box?
