single layer mdf for 6 subs? cmon man. maybe you failed to notice the amount of bracing it has. i designed the enclosure, and told him what he had to do, and it came out remarkable. it's silly loud for a bunch of $50 10"s to andy, deffinatly post some more pics if you can. |
yah i saw the bracing. double baffle next time.
u told him to use caukin? cmon man, what is that? use resin next time, resin the whole box, not just the corners. doesnt the caulkin just peel off? |

why does it have to be a fart box to get resin put in it? you know much about fart boxes? educate us. i seen a 1000 rms box tuned to 36hz with resin in it. Did someone make a mistake by putting it in there? They should have used caulkin? at which point, power and frequency wise, do you use resin vs. caulkin? since that seems to be the criteria. |

so why the caulkin in the box then? wood glue and screwes should not leave any air leaks open once the glue has settled. right?

They should have used caulkin? i know jack about them, but every one i've seen is resined, thats why i made that comment above. i can tell you one thing though, i can make $50 subs sound like the pair of DD's your trying to sell. if this is gonna turn into a bash fest on peoples enclosure abilities i'm not gonna argue. whats done is done. |

Secondly, how are you gonna make one sub sound like another sub? Please be very specific. I wasnt bashing anything, just saying, should have double baffled and used resin instead of ghetto caulkin. Cuz really, there is no point of having it there. He wasted $10 on the tube of caulkin. nice set up either way. |
You know what I see?
I see a guy with an SUV who wanted to build something for himself....if he likes the overall look and effect of a bigass ported box with 6 subs....go ahead and build it.......:smilie_da If he does it right he will get some serious thud out of that setup.....if he doesn't it was a learning experience that will benefit him the next time he tries. Could the same SPL (or SQ or whatever combination of the two he was trying to achieve) have been achieved with 2 12s in a smaller box?.....Of course.....which I'm sure he would have done if that's what he wanted to do. Everyone wants to have a system that makes them happy....he's obviously pleased with the way it turned out or we wouldn't have seen or heard about it.....:smokin: To the OP....been awhile since I saw something like this in person.....if you and 420guy meet I'd appreciate an invite as well.....:smilie_da Have fun with the new toys.....:D |

Every time I see those subs, I can only think of Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart, since those are the major retailers selling them (and allow their customers to do what they want to them in-store).
I'd be really interested to hear it though. Crazy, that's for sure. |

I'd be really interested to hear it though. Crazy, that's for sure. Set-ups like this always remind me of the old saying "there's no replacement for displacement"......:D Heard that one from Dukk one day long ago on another board, it's still true.... I'd still like to hear it in person.....:smilie_da |
thx for the support yuli. ^_^. obviously to late to change it now, so mabe you could say that i did a good job or just stfu? and for my first custom system i would say this is pretty fvckn good.
|
oh and yea bigred for sure, mabe this coming sat if your available. i just gotta work out a few minor kinks with it.
also, why would i spend something like 300 or more on a pair of subs, when if i damage one, i'm out all that cash, when i can just buy a cheap one, with good specs (330RMS/1200Peak which is a lot better then some of the more expensive names with lower numbers) and if i damage it or it pops i can just get another one for cheap? what is your reason for thinking that Sony is garbage? an give me a real reason, not just because you or someone else said so. |
Hey man nice setup if your ever up the shwa way id love to hear it i have sonys in the past and they can take one helluva beating actuall my 4 12's and 4 amps are all still pounding in other ppls rides good job that box looks insane
|
We did a similar box in a Cherokee a long time back - 6 Sony 10s in 9cuft vented. He had one of those red 1000watt Sony X amps and the results were pretty impressive. I thought his truck was going to come apart, lol.
IMO Sony makes one of the best $50 woofers out there. |
thx :D.
i way i see it is, sony has 330RMS and 1200 peak for 50$. other brands have like 300RMS and 600peak for 150$ so unless im missing something, the sony is the obvious choice. |

:appl: Good Job :appl: :smilie_da I DID say I'd want to hear it ... so make sure you're pointing the finger at the right person! |
lol i was being sarcastic when i said Thx Yuli, that was pointed towards yuli lol.
|
heard sony and hate sony. but yes for 50$ a sub they do sound better than the others for the power range lol.
AND you do have a nice setup andnice workmanship on the box. :P lol just dont put sony speakers. they just sound horrible hehe |

oh you mean, learn to let people bash all my hard work and walk all over me.
mabe you should "be a man" and use contructive critisism, which people want, instead of comin into a topic where someone has OBVIOUSLY put alot of work into his system and saying how its pretty much a complete failure. just because i dont care about this NEARLY as much as you aparently do, nor have as much knowledge, doesnt mean you get to be prick. im obviously a new person, so help me instead of puting down my attempts. |
alright yuli since noone wants to play. Im down.
Caulking vs resin. Im not going to argue that too much i think you are right in alot of ways ive seen alot of "big names" (no im not mentioning them u know wtf i mean) use caulking because its better then nothing and cheaper then resin..however if your not worrying about 10th's of dbs the extra bit gained from the caulking shouldn't matter. good call. However the double baffle....yet again this man obviously isnt worried about gaining every bit he can. The baffle will not break and even the amount of flex might not even do much in this case if he were 2 double up on the baffles. I know your just havin fun but comeon at least nit pick the important things like the lack of duct tape around his subs ;) did you ever end up selling the rex? |

mabe you should "be a man" and ect... As yuli said double baffle, make the inside smoother, make all your bracing as small as you can and rounded. (threaded rod works or wooden dowels). Just do a bit more reading but its really not a bad first box. |
Thank you dietz, thats all im looking for...

I wish you had sold it already. Now i have to try and convince myself not to buy it. I need a new vehicle come summer either a daily driver so i can destory my van or truck\van to destroy...hummm a rex...humm... |

:smilie_da:appl: Gotta agree with you there man. LOL Never liked Sorry:cheeky4: I mean Sony sucks, Go JL :smilie_da Thanks Jones I am at work and needed a good laugh. |
So is the big deal about resin to 'seal' up the MDF so air isn't leaking through the wood? Resin sticks to wood just fine, but I've seen resin flake off. Never seen that happen with caulking. Never seen it peel off on it's own either using it as a seam sealer. I imagine somebody somewhere found a fraction of a DB improvement by using resin (although if a sensor can read fractions of DB's how much variance is there in the exact same system doing back to back runs? Has to be some) but for the purposes of the box you built Equnoxe, the caulking is great.
|
thx sux lol, so WHY does sony suck? ^_^there has to be a reason you all think Sony subs are garbage.
|
i found that they sound just horrible. just like theyre HT crap
|
really? :|, i have no problem with that, they sound crisp and loud to me... i haven't noticed any annoying noises, ive been in cars with Kicker/JL/Clarion/Fosgate and it sounds just as good to me..
