I built a amp box with vents in the bottom and and ported it at the back, installed a fan that I stripped out of a computer power supply box, bought at the local pawn shop for $5.00. I matched the amp draw of the fan to the remote wire and it has worked fabiously for over 2 months now. The only draw back is when I power down the system, the fan shuts off. No continued cooling, sigh. The local electronic supply house wants $80.00 or more for a delay shut-off relay. I'm debating on crusing junk yards for the relay from a Caddie type car with delay shut-off headlights.
I didn't get an answer where it was posted before so I thought I'd try it here. Thanks 4 ur help.

Why don't you go one step further and make it so they are on when the amps are warm and turn off when they cool to a certain temp.

here is the link

This is the home site for that page

Check it out. There is more info on this site than you will know what to do with!!

^^ That way is a great idea because the time delay doesn't insure that the amps have cooled sufficiently.

You might not even need something that sophisticated. An analogue home thermostat might be sufficient. I'm not sure how it works but when it is set to cool you hear it click just before it activates the airconditioning unit. Maybe you can use something like that, and set it for 30 degrees celcius.

One problem i can see with the home thermostat is the movement of the mercury while the vehicle is in motion

I'd have to agree w/ the mecury switch and bounce theory, and that would proply also go with a bi-metal temp. gage. I looked at the site U posted and went Whooow. Little over my head, yet. I will keep wrapping my brain around it for now. Heat hasn't been a prob yet, big amp calls for a 70 amp fuse and I'm running it and a 30x2 channel amp through a disto block protected by only a 40 amp monster fuse (See IT'S ALIVE, SO FAR ). And winter is on the way. Time to start zeroing volume before shuting down system over nite. Blew up a cold speaker once when I forgot to turn a system down and temp was well below 0 . But live and learn.
