Costly Exotics-just a band-aid for a poor install?

Here's my question.
Does a Ferrari make you a better driver?
Does a Rollex keep better time?
The ansewr to that should be simple, right?
So then here in it lies? Why does more expensive products, make us think that our sound stage will be more clear or direct, or our bass wont peak at certain frequency?
I'm sure that if you put me in, lets say, Paul Tracy's champ car, he'd probobly still be a better driver than I, and I have no problem admiting that, BUT, if i practiced and did what i was supposed to do,I'd get better, because I would adapt to the new enviroment. NOW, with that said, I dont think you could stick Paul Tracy in a Garbage truck, and he could beat me if I were in his champ car, do you see what I'm trying to get at?
Yes, its nice to have the absolute most expensive psuedo "cool gear" in your ride, but if its not installed right, or even properly, you just have Paul Tracy Racing at daytona in a garbade truck! Thats just the way I see it. I bet, that I could install a Pyramid, or MA audio system, that sounded just as good, if not better than any over priced component/sub combo, but maybe thats just cuz I'm a genius

sorta like puttin regular in the space shuttle. i'm with ya 100% on that. around 1990-91 we put 2 B-52 10" subs into a car on a 1000w Sherwood amp. we took some extra time and care building the box and hit 137.6 in a chevette.lol. so much fun. install is everything people we all know that.

JS - you seem pretty 'anti-high end' brands yet you list MBQuart as your choice in speakers. Popular opinion holds MBQ as a 'high end' brand.
So tell us - what brands do you feel are good enough to be a quality brandname without becoming pretentious or overpriced soley due to name alone?

no not a better driver BUT you can bet it has better preformance then a ford?
if your comparing how things preform then what does skill have to do with it?
in life you almost always get what you pay for.
maybe you and Tweek should get togeather, he likes to rag on the good stuff also

install will only take you so far.
the components set the limit of how well you can make them sound. if you do a crappy install on anything it will sound crappy, i agree with the fact that high end components won't change that. BUT, it the install is perfect(i wish) then the limiting factor is the components.
so my opinion. buying expensive stuff makes a difference, if it doesn't, you suck at installing

anybody involved in car audio knows that only about 1/2 the guys doing install really have the necessary skill set to be classified as a good or great installer, and the rest just get the job done with no thought for what an average install can do to an above average piece of gear.
there is however no question that better gear makes a diff. shoulda made that point earlier.
