I'm trying to decide which sub to use this year for compeitions I have 2 of each DD 9512 (not the latest model I don't think) and Massive Audio DMX 12 (special Dual 4ohm coils). I have a Chevrolet Citation 2 hatchback for this years season.

Here are some pics of the setup

Both subs are currently being driven by Massive RS-100 1000rms @ 4ohm AB class amp

I don't think this amp will be used for competing. I plan on using 2 Massive D200X amps.

My thoughts on the DD's are that they are pretty loud overall but the sound quality isn't very good, they sound a little sloppy especially on transitions and sweeps. Also the motor is noisy. It seems to me that these subs are comming very close to XMAX with the current setup at only 250rms per coil!
The DMX subs are alot tigher and cleaner, and they seem to want alot more power then the RS-100 is giving. I would say with my ear that the DMX's are a just a little lower DB wise, but with a larger amp i'm sure I could get more out of them.

I'm pretty sure I will keep the DMX's in for daily driving for awhile as they sound much better overall. but if I don't get new amps then I may use the DD's for competitons

Comments or suggestions would be nice.

About the Only place Massive matters is on Vancouver Island.

Its quite funny the cult following that occurs over there.

That massive woofer is a Ubuy product

^ No name, off-shore manufactured product that Ubuy makes for whoever wants to buy a quantity of them. Basically, no 'engineering' is done by Massive. They just give Ubuy their logos and order up a whack of them. Catalogue engineering is cheap

I'm pretty sure that massive isn't a ubuy company, they do some R&D and sold voice coil venting technology to JL just over a year ago.
Massive audio bought out Marathon about 6 years ago.

Maybe the DD's are 9012 series, I recent bought them really cheap and I just assumed they were an older 9512 model

The Vancouver Island topic rears it's ugly head again. As a Vancouver Island dealer I know all too well about thses guys. Here is a story.

A family owns a car stereo shop in Victoria. It is run by the kid. The Dad imports and distributes Marathon (now dead) and replaced my Massive that no one else can get so it must be the best. Kid buys from dad real cheap. Kid knows how to make a good SPL vehicle and uses said brand that no one else can get to make a winning spl vehicle. He takes these spl vehicles around the local market and cleans up at spl contests, why, not because of the product that dad warraties after each contest or that kid loans competitors for contest, but because they know how to tune a resonant frequency.

Anyone can put junk in their trunk and get loud, and even louder if they know how to do it properly. I am seriously considering building a spl vehicle just to hand him is a$$ this season and to show people that even a name brand can do seriously good numbers. I find it very odd that he will not compete outside of our general area and at no time have I ever seen him enter a sq or install contest, wonder why?

Now the vehicle that was mentioned with the whole pile of 8's actually was bought that way. It was owned by PROCAR Audio in Naniamo, BC and fully stocked with Rockford Fosgate gear and partially designed by PEZ from Korbon Trading (all stand in awe of PEZ). Pez was local for us at the time. All this shop did was take out the Rockford and swap in their product + some basic modifications, at no time was it built from the ground up by them. So kudo's to Roland at Procar in Naniamo for a nice system and PEZ for the input on it.

Now dad claims to be an engineer and in my presence claimed that no Soundstream amp can make 1000watts rms (Rubicon 1000) because the outputs are brand xyz and not brand lmnop like Marathon uses. He also went to my customers in my store and offered $100.00 to any one that could beat his 8" marathon. This person got a nice get th **** out and don't come back or to my events again. Now things have quieted down again in the last number of years but every now and again the ugly topic arises and needs to be stamped out like the black plague. I hope that some of you will agree, for most all the other dealers on the island probably do. I have never ever been so pissed off at a dealer or distributor as I have at these guys. Maybe they will start to do sq and install and improve their status as a store in general and change their ways of talking to people, if they can do that, they would be welcome again at my stores.

MR2NR: Very well said. I have experiences with the shop you speak of and I know that everything the father and son say must be heard with a pinch of salt, and a very objective point of view. That said, he is a good salesman.
At western finals his "team" of 3 members got 1st places in each division, so the equipment does work quite well.
