i figured i would post and maybe someone can give me some insight.

i have a alpine cda-7893b deck and ive been having quite a few problems with it.

after having it for about 2 weeks the face plate started to flicker, go on and off and if you moved or pushed on the face plate it would work / not work. so i took it in and got a replacement faceplate. I put it on and everything worked fine so i was happy and went on my way. about a week after that it started doing the same thing again with the new faceplate. it isnt as bad this time but it still does it on ocation, usually at night for some reason.

i have a few ideas of what it might be but im not sure.

faulty deck?
insuficiant power?
bad luck? lol

any info would be great. thanks

Try cleaning the contacts on the back of the face and on the deck. Sometimes lint, cigerette ashes and/or dust gets on there. That is really all i can think of.

naw. its perfectly clean. just went and checked. its weird cuz sometimes it works and othertimes it wont at all. but from pushing around the faceplate when its conected will make it work if its messing up.

Well, after a new face plate and the problem has come back, my guess is that the problem is in the HU itself and by pushing the faceplate around you are moving the contacts a little bit further in the HU. It sounds like a long shot but I had something similar happen to me. My left channel kept cutting out and I would play with the volume and it would work again. I swore there was something wrong with the volume control. As it turns out, a capacitor worked its way loose in the back right of the HU. When I played with the volume it shifted the circuit board enough to reconnect the Cap.

Could it also be that the illumination wire is grounding out?
