Exclamation Deck Size and Sound Quality

Hi there,

I'm quite new at the whole audio game and I've got a few questions.

Currently I've got a 1997 VW Jetta Trek. It's got the 8 stock internal speakers and the stock deck, with two 10-inch subs and an amp in the back.

I generally use my iPod to play music, and right now I have that tape deck adapter that has the wire going to my iPod.

I'm taking my car in for some audio work, and my question is this: Should I buy a deck? If I bought a deck with an iPod jack, would the sound quality be superior to the current tape deck adapter?

My second question is this, does it matter what kind of deck I buy? It seems that all the decks out there are thinner than the space that I would have if I removed the stock deck (it's a monster). Wouldn't that leave weird extra space in the dash?

Thanks SO much in advance!

Welcome to the board.

Yes you should replace the deck. MR2NR (board member) has some good delas on Eclipse product right now. A new deck with built in ipod or USb adaptors will give you better sound.

As for the leaving a "space", you could buy an adaptor/install kit for Vdubs that will fill in the "Space" for a clean look.

A good shop should be able to guide you and provide you with what you need.

Indeed I do have some deals on equipment right now (and thank you for the support ). Yes changing to a new headunit will offer superior results for you especially with your ipod. It will bring the system to life when you do this upgrade. Your sub system will also have a dedicated level control. You can upgrade into bluetooth if you want as well. Lots of options, drop me a PM if I can help you out or msn me forbidden at telus dot net.
