Digital Designs Subs
I've always wondered why DD subs always have the wires coming from the basket, instead of wire terminals... is it for better competition wiring for 4 in a wall, or are you supposed to fuse them there? i have no clue, do you?
Yuli is correct it is for a better connection, don't solder them just strip back about 2 inches on each end to be terminated twist each end very tightly and then tape very tightly geting a tight twist and tape is very important for copper/copper connection. It is much better than solder resistance. Been tested many times.
They make the wires come out because they "CLAIM" it has less resistance then terminals would, and terminals limit you to which gauge wire you can use with them, hence they have the wires come out. Personally you wouldn't see hear the difference, but I guess in the SPL world, everything has to be put into factor !
the direct connect terminals are simply better, try connecting a woofer in parrallel using 8 guage wire...you can't fit one 8 guage in a terminal let alone two of them. With direct connect you just twist and tape and its done. With terminals your trying to cut back the wire and then twist it tight so you can get both in and then you put it in and it frays so the next time its hard. Also the terminals are like $5 each to buy as I recall and for $10 (or $20 when they used to make quads) and the wire costs next to nothing and is better so why not save the money so you can make the woofer cheaper and better for the end user.
