I guess an investment is measured by what you put in vs. what you get out of it.

From a purely financial perspective, as many have said, car audio is not a good investment. However, if you don't regret what you've put into it, and are enjoying it, then it's a good investment, imho.

I for one have put in much more cash that I originaly planned into my system. At first, I just wanted 4 good speakers. Now I think I've got a pretty solid SQ system. However, I have no regrets. I get into my car and enjoy every second of the music I listen to, and sometimes just go on drives, or sit in a parking lot listening to music for a couple hours.

Will I ever get any of that money back ? Probably not. But, I got to meet a lot of good people doing this.

If i wanted an investment, there are stock markets made for that.
Isn't the theory supposed to be 'buy low, sell high'? Thats not going to happen with audio equipment. Or Cars. I suppose, just like selling a used car, if you keep it in good shape, it will retain some of its initial value.

Car audio, to the audiophile is money well spent, not invested.

It all depends on what you expect out of said investment...if it's a return on your money, not very likely. But if it's just the satisfaction of being able to enjoy what you invested your money in, there's not many better investments.

My truck is my favorite material possession .. I love the thing. I got a picture in my head of what it will look like once its finished, and so far, I've finished the interior (alll most ... mount subs, get front/rear speakers, 4 channel amp, navi unit and hands free unit for my D106 ... install new steering wheel and possibly get black sued headliner to match black leather interior) .. and thats just my interior. My plans for the engine are extensive, and the exterior calls for body work and a complete re-paint and changing of the color. It's a hobby ( or obsession as my girlfriend calls it lol ). It all depends on each person, girls buy a crapload of jewelry and diamonds that could easily be stolen, is that a bad investment? It all depends on how you look at it, its more of a philosophical question than a car audio related one haha

Nothing is a bad investment if you'll use it everyday and really enjoy it. 'Gotta live a little, and if having a system that rattles your eyeballs is something you'll enjoy everyday, go for it!
