DLS UP6 plus MTX TC4004

Ok, current setup is 4 5"x7" JL's in all 4 doors running at 72rms each.

I just obtained a lovely pair of UP6 compoments which are going in the front. I have ceased to care what is in the rear doors, and may run them off the deck, if anything.

Now, the TC4004 specs out at 250rms (520rms total) if channels 3/4 are bridged but the manual says nothing about brdging channels 1 /2.

If the UP6 components were 2ohms, then they would be getting about 105rms each, but they are 4 ohm, so 72rms it is. Not enough in my opinion.

Is there any way to get 250rms to the fronts with this amp and maintain a stereo output? Bridging channels 3/4 on the amp is meant for a subwoofer, so bye bye stereo.

A 2 channel Audison is in my future, trust me, but not til the end of the month. In the meantime, well, everyone wants to try thier new toys right away right?

I will be selling the MTX, (for cheap) its less than a month old, so I will run it like it is for now unless someone chimes in with an answer for my above question.

Thanks!

John

This amp is a plain 4-channel. I do not know how you got the 3/4 channels are for the sub. They can be used as such, but not designed for this sole function at all.

You can bridge channels 1 and 2 into one, and 3 and 4 into another one. So you have a stereo mode for your fronts, feeding each side 200 wrms. Use one set of RCA's. DONE!!!

The manual says you can bridge 3/4 for use with a sub, but I wouldnt bother doing that, just says its possible.

So, one set RCA? So at the deck, just remove the rear RCA cable, leve the front L/R intact.

So now I would have just the front L/R coming to the amp, how would I hook it up to the amp? Front Left and Rear Right maybe?

You've been incredibly helpful, thank you again!

No probelm. Amp is easily bridgable for use on the front stage. You use one RCA cable from the deck front, and on the amp you can use either:

1. Front Right + Rear Right
or
2. Front Left + Rear Left

BTW, I just spoke with my installer buddy. He will get back to me. He tells me, some cheesy amps only bridgable on channels 3 and 4. You could have been right. I'll get back to u.

I am getting conflicting info on this MTX, but I have feeling you can bridge the way I said, cause on the website it says 200x2 at 4 ohms. Best thing is to phone MTX tech support, and ask about this possibility, and make sure through them what is the right way to connect RCA's on this amp in bridged mode.

I took your advice and phoned. I really did not want to hurt the amp by fooling around too much. Whether I keep it or sell it doesnt matter, I dont like damaged stuff.

Anyway, the answer sure surprised me ...they told me "PUSH THE BUTTON STUPID"...well, I made up the stupid part, but I felt a bit stupid.

The amp has a button labeled 2/4 channel. I never payed much attention and the manual says nothing about it at all. So I pushed it.

I can only crank the deck volume to about 60% of what I used to now. Made a HUGE difference. Have to reset everything I guess. I dont know what wrms I am getting (probably 256 per side, birth certificate says 512wrms) but my goodness what a difference!

I HONESTLY did not think the JL's were going to survive the drive home. Cannot wait to put the UP{6's in.

So I learned something

Cheers

John
