Do Type X Comps Need 4 Channel Amp?

I am looking very seriously at a set of type x 6.5 comps. I have a pg xenon 200.2 for my fronts, but my buddy was saying you need a 4 channel to take full advantage. I want to keep my amp, but I have an option to sell it too. Should I look for another amp to run the type x's, or look at a different comp set. My goal is to keep up (for the most part) with a 15" FI audio BL series (the brand new one) and a rockford t10001bd (essentially strong midbass and highs that aren't too bright). Let me know what you think.

Since they come with a crossover you can use that and run a 2 channel amp.
Or you can use an external crossover and run active with a 4 channel amp.
Your choice.
Refer to the many threads on active vs. passive for the pros and cons of each.

I run active, with a 2 channel amp for each door speaker. I use a PG MX2 crossover, but also use the HPF in the deck to cut off below 100.

Is it going to sound horrible like he says If I go with a 2 channel, or is it going to make that big of a difference (I'm not an audiophile).

If your buddy is saying that they will sound horrible, time to get a new buddy
They can be ran with a 2ch amp like any other components that come with a built passive x-over.

If you are using the passive xovers having a similar 4ch bridged down may be more desirable for extended headroom/power...

Will a pg xenon 200.2 be a good match for the type x's? Also, do they have good midbass? Probably gonna cross them at 80 hertz or so if that helps.

EDIT: Price being the same, should I get the type x 6.5's or the cdt ef-61cf comp set? First goal is midbass, second is laid back tweets.
