Hey guys, just over a week ago I installed my system (my setup is in sig) into my 1990 5.0L Mustang. Now ever since then it is very hard to start, and usually takes a few tries to turn over. The first few days I was watching the voltmeter and everything was looking good, but now yesterday after work I'm trying to start my car, and after a few attempts it BARELY started. The voltmeter was down just above the red line at the bottom, and on my way to mcdonalds for breakfast, my speakers kept cutting out (but not the subs). So I go in grab my breakfast and come back to my car. I struggle to get it to start and it barely starts up again. I didn't turn on my headlights this time, and my stereo didn't cut out at all on the drive home, but the voltmeter was still at the bottom. I don't wanna get off work and be stranded, so I want to figure this problem out asap. Is an optima red top in my future?

The new stereo may or may not be a factor but it does not look good. If it is crapping out as you drive... could be an alternator... LBKC time!

I have the exact same problem ! The power cuts out at a certain volume, my dash lights flicker alot, and when starting in the morning, it sounds very weak.....

I have an old alternator (60 amps) and an old battery !

I am in the process of buying a 140 amp alternator and an Optima Yellow top battery , cuz i need more juice .

This will do the trick !

well this was the first time anything's cut out on me, some I'm gonna keep an eye out for it. I should point out also, my lights don't flicker, which is a good thing.

I see its a rustang... very first thing you nede to do is..

#1 - Buy a car
#2 - New battery
#3 - New alt (Upgraded)
#4 - Install previous system from the rustang

Now #1 is the MOST IMPORTANT one.. So I would do that up first. Good luck with your new buy.

if it is discharging while driving, you will need to upgrade alternators.in the meantime,go easy on the test tones if it charges while driving and funds allow, purchase a hawker energy pc1700.
or if cash is an issue, the largest deep cycle at walmart works good for cheap.i build alts, and have large frame 200amp for a reasonable price.

AMAZING ALTS HE BUILDS!! FOR INSANELY CHEAP PRICES!! AND A EXTREMELY NICE GUY!!

I am getting one here soon, as soon as my new engine goes in or as soon as my system goes in!

His alts can pull off 300 amps at around 2000rpm, with ease.
