door spacers question

door spacers question
my components fit flush against the bare metal door and dont interfere with the window. Are spacers used only for fitment issues or are they good to have for a proper install or for better sound somehow?

hey dan! spacers are usually used for fitment and clearance issues. i dont believe they will "enhance" the sound but pehaps help with resonance a bit. i usually put a peel and stick foam sealer that you can find at the hardware store on my spacers or apply it straight to the door so that the mid fits comfortably instead of to bare metal. i find this helps keep the mid flush, tight and sealed in the door instead of air escaping between the mid mounting frame and the door.
Hope this answers your question! by the way whats your system and vehicle its going into ?

ya thats exactly how i was picturing it, with the air escaping and all.
the system consists of
kenwood x794
morel dotech ovation
morel tempo coax's
eclipse ea4000
sundown audio saz2000d
and just a sealed 12'' idv3
i got the sundown to power a 12'' xcon originally but money became an issue and couldnt pay almost 700 for sub and box. i found the id for a good price and took it for now. kinda overkill but ill be carfeul untill i find something to match the amp
its going in the 2.5l sentra once it comes back from the rebuilder
