Ebay dilemma

Ebay dilemma

So about a month ago I sell a 4 channel amp on Ebay. Before selling it I had it tested at a reputable local electronics shop. All channels tested fine. I sell it to a buyer in the US, he contacted me a few weeks ago when he received it, he hooked it up, worked fine, left me positive feedback, all good. Tonight I get an email from him, he says that when he bridges it to 2 channels to run his components that the front half is crackly. He says that this wiring is fine, it is the amp, and will cost $120 US to fix, will I pay half to help him out. What would you do??? Personally I do not feel any responsibility in this issue, I would have thought that he would have tested it in the bridged mode before letting me know it worked fine. Thanks for any input!

If you guaranteed the amp to work(all channels all modes) then i would do the right thing and help him out.
Is he giving you proof of repair?

Did youre shop test in bridged mode?

^^^ i agree. that is the #1 thing that is always in my mind when i do something for a customer. i just try to make shure that they get what they paid for even if costs me time or money.

While I totally agree with the guys here, As much as I like to help people out, alot of people are scammers out their. I have sold lots of stuff to people through the net 98% of them went well.. Their are those odd guys that are just out to get cha.

It reminds me of the time i sold a sub to a member here, He met up with me inspected the sub and bought it. Took it home, after 2 days contacts me saying he wants a money back, the sub is not loud and its because of the damaged fin on the basket. When he inspected it, it was fine... Left me bad feedback too... So just watch out dude..

Hey Ross, I would not send the customer any money for repairs. Instead, I'd offer a refund for the purchase price not including shipping if the customer sends the amp back.

If he takes you up on the offer, at least you'll have an amp to show for the refund.

Thanks for all of the responses guys. The only thing I wish I had done was ensure that the shop had tested the amp in bridged mode, I assumed that if everything worked in stereo then it would have been fine. I will think on it, Bryan I like that idea, maybe I will go that route. He can always find a 2 channel if he wants, that would better suit his needs. Cheers!

I would not help him out. It has been 4 weeks or so. And who is to say that he didn't improperly bridged it and did some damage and then to take the amp back, you may be getting back a shot amp. There is a ton of scammers out there. The responsible is not on you. You had it tested, sold it he was happy and now he's not. Not your issue IMO

^^ Thanks man! I sort of feel the same way, the amp has balanced inputs, and you need to read the manual to get an idea as to how to set it up, other wise it can be tricky to get it running correctly.

Ya im with you on this one. No problem. Like I said alot of Scams running and people are looking to even scam B&M retailers the best they can without getting caught. You even went one step further and had it tested.

Id let this one ride. Who knows what, how, he's done since then.

Guarantee no DOA, but still call it AS-IS, if applicable. The best PYA i know of when selling electronics.
