Eclipse 5440

Just want to know how are these things, and what are the specs if anyone has them? I can't seem to find anything on the net pertaining to this unit.
Reason I ask is I can get one for free. My neighbour has one, and he knows I'm into car audio so he said I can have it just as long as I give him anohter cd player in return (anything that plays cd's).
So if it's a good unit, I might just do that.
It has a font, and line out rca's. So I'm assuming that's a non-fading rca? I have no clue, but if you guys have opinions feel free to post them, I could use the help/advice.

If I remember correctly, it is a pretty no frills deck, 2 sets of RCAs(not a non-fading pre out). The pre outs are 2.7 volts. The deck is probably 4-5 years old now?
It should sound great, BUT I wouldn't give up a ton for it since a brand new, comparable, eclipse deck isn't very expensive now, brand new.

i have used and sold eclpise for years and i couldnt recommend you any stronger to turn and run the other way from the 5440, i personally sent over 25 of that exact model for service at least once, some 2 and some even 3, if you are interested i would be willing to give you one as i have three i wouldnt consider even selling to my worst enemy, of course, they are all broken and are in need of repair, unless you are going to give your neighbor a broken cd player in return i wouldnt get it, there is a reason he's willing to "give" it to you

we had frightening amounts of failures, i sold eclipse for 8 years from as far back as the ecd510
in 2001-2002 we sent more eclipse 5440,5441,5441r,for service that we sold, and thats not counting the dreaded 5303 pile of ****. we had great success with all the amps, woofers and co-axials but the cd players were the biggest piles of crap i have ever sold in the 13 years that ive done this, and with repair times as long as 3-4 months id almost rather of sold jensen, sure was happy to get most people into alpine units, far more reliable and in blind testing i think 999,999 out of 1000000 would never tell the difference with any consistency
