Energy 3.5" at Futureshop - Opinions?

Thinking of trying these in an install. Anyone auditioned them or have some feedback. They look quite good as far as 3.5's go.

I can't say I have specifically auditioned the 3.5 but I find overall that I like the sound of the Energy drivers.

If you can fit a bigger speaker than 3.5 do it.

I've heard the Energy speakers at FS and they were ok, The price seems to be alright too .

for the price awsome.. are they in the same league as the pioneer ts-m171prs, no but they are just as good and acurate as the hybrid L3 midrange which seems to be what audio lemmings are buying these days, but are more resonably priced.. i have personally heard both and the difference is miniscule.. run them in a 3 way front from 200 to 6k and you will be fine..

Considering you don't know the rest of the plans, why do you make this statement?

Everyone else, thanks for the helpful feedback. That gives me a lot to go on.

Goalie: I'm considering using these instead of a 3.5" fullrange (Fountek FR88-ex/TB W3 Bamboo) as I'm doubting the high frequency detail I'll get from them installed off-axis. The Energy should do better I'm hoping in the high frequencies as it has a decent looking tweeter. I'm a little curious why you're suggesting LP it at 6k? BTW, I'm going to run a Dayton RS225 in the front doors so I'll likely HP ~300-350Hz.

hummmm nice set up, i, personally would do this set up... run the peerless 830875 midsbass in the kicks,, run from 63 to 200hz then i would use those fountek, very nice driver by the way, from 200 till 6.5k then your tweeter of choice... i like the hiquphone owll personally, but my second choice would be the tang-band, 2514. run the xovers hot on the sub, then 24 db on everything eles.. remember speaker placement is paramount in a 3 way front so most of your time should be spent designing a good solid front stage... good luck...

The thing is, I want to keep this basic, light, and low cost. I already have 9" factory subs in the front doors. Makes sense to put a 8" in there. I don't want to cut the car or make kicks. I have 3.5" openings in the dash. I don't have the crossovers to go 3-way active. I've got a 100x4 amp for the front stage (12db crossover) and between this and the HU (likely a Pioneer 4200DVD) I can make it work active with 2-way. An option would also be to use the Fountek and run it open on the top end and power a set of tweets off the HU with a passive HP on them. I'd rather use a decent 3.5 coax instead of that option so I don't have visible tweeters.

ok run the earthquake sws 8 inch for subs.. i used them in my civic and they are thin and work very well.... not cheap but not to pricey....and the rest of your system is ok.. lets build it and go from there.. but remember.. the most important thing you can do for sq is stop panel vibrations and reflextions.. so think about this; as speaker placement has already been desided, any car vibrations or panel resonance will cause massive sq problems. good dampening and proper panel damping will work wonders in your car..

Actually I've already got a OZ Matrix Elite 15.2 for sub duties. Oh and I have ~7" of clearance in my doors for the 8's so I'm able to use just about any 8 and not stuck with shallow mounts. If I needed them to do bass duties I would pick something else but I think the RS225's will work perfect for this install though.
