Im thinkin about down the road sometime eventually getting a graphic equalizer.. probably a 7 band.. what are some good brands / features to be on the lookout for so I can start investigating them.

EQs are getting harder & harder to find these days as many manufacturers are putting them in the source units. For example, this year 12 Pioneer units have EQs built-in (six with 3-band parametric, two with 7-band, four with 16-band graphic & one with dual (L/R) 16-band graphic so they don't offer a separate one any more.
I'm sure if you really want an outboard one you could post in the "wanted" section & you might get some responses with some used ones.
Good luck!

If you don't mind older, check out the Pioneer EQ-6500. This one is $7 and in Prince George. 9 bands plus an adjustable subwoofer band

Or Alpine 3321/3331/ERE-G180. All the same unit with some cosmetic differences. 11 band.

sorry to hijack your thread, but maybe some experienced members can share their thoughts on external eqs vs HU eqs.

My understanding that dedicated external eq introduce less noise into the system than the ones built in to the HU. Maybe this has changed with newer more advanced HU's, but I wouldn't know.

Thoughts anyone?

I have only owned one deck with built in eq, that being my Pioneer Premier DEH-P630, bought in 2002. I find it's eq introduces no noise at all into the signal path. Neither does the sub crossover.

I would recommend audiocontrol stuff if you're set on external but lots of decks have them built in

I have a DEQ-7200 from Pioneer, and after I wired it up, id actually introduced noise itself, although the preouts are .85 volts I believe.
I still have it, if anyone wants it.. but the only catch is someone tried to steal it.. so they ripped the face off, and the ribbon wire disconnected. I would imagine if you plugged that back in it would be good to go (ps, it works even without the face)

is it worth it to get a really nice eq as opposed to just like a lanzar, or clarion or something.. I have been looking at eq's with bass restoration.. does anyone reccommend bass restoration?
