Hey guys,
It has been almost 3 months since i picked up an "exile pro xpe12d" subwoofer from the future shop for the amazing price of $149. Back then i fried my infinity 12" reference sub due to applying 450 watts rms to it too many times when it was rated for 300. I tried out a buddy's alpine type r 12" in my car in a ported enclosure with 650 watts rms 2 ohms mono by means of a infinity 611a amp. I was impressed by the alpine. Unfortunately the alpine dealer was sold out so i settled for the exile instead because it looked rugged, had good specs and the dealer gave me a 30 day straight exchange if i blew it up. Once hooked up i could not tell the difference between the two. I am equally impressed with the exile. I stated back then if it lasted a month, i would buy another and get a hifonics amp running 1200 watts mono 1 ohm.
So did it survive? Yes... In fact i pumped 650-700 watts into this sub daily for several hours at a time for about 6 weeks listening to bass heavy rap with out one single problem. no voice coil issues. no adhesive issues. Nothing! This sub has been 100% bulletproof. I went out and bought another one almost 6 weeks ago and ran it the same way. Took it easy on it the first few days to loosen up the suspension. Had the bass on my deck set on 1. Bass boost on amp shut off and subsonic filter on. The same results. Solid and reliable with tons of deep bass. This sub has a 600 watt rms rating, 19mm 1-way x-max rating, 89db sensitivity rating with a 105 ounce double stacked motor structure, one piece vacume formed dustcap. long throw rubber surround ect, ect, ect. End result. I have 2 of these bad boys for the price of 1 alpine type r. I Am in the process of building a dual ported enclosure(38hz) to house both woofers with 1200rms(600 to each woofer) supplied. Should pound!!!

can you post a link
The one i found on FS web site shows as being 500rms and the basket looks different (looks stamped rather then cast like yours)
So it sounds good, I also want to know what size and tuning box did you use for one ported (I have a 2cf @36.5hz that I am hoping to re use)

it lists 2.2cf and a longer port (so I assume lower Tuning frequency?)
I wonder what it sounds like with the larger box but still tuned a bit higher. What exactly is the wool that you used? I like that idea in case I decide I want to remove it.
I work at BB so I want to see what my cost is on this sub and try it out.

SPL- 1.6cu.ft...4" vent dia, 11" long( about 39 hz.)
NORMAL- 2.2cu.ft..4" vent dia., 14" long (about 30 hz.)
SQ- 3.0cu.ft...4" vent dia., 12" long( about 27.5hz.)
I thought that the spl would be 3.0 and the sq 1.6. I contacted exile curious if their specs was a misprint, and was told that the manual was correct. The fiberfill can be bought at the walmart in the fabric isle. It is used for pillows ect. In my box i used it generously on all inside panels held in place with spray adhesive. I find it helps control unwanted speaker resonances.

Yes
my understanding of fiberfill though is that it helps with backwaves but one big plus of it is that it tricks the speaker into thinking it's in a larger enclosure not smaller. You mentioned using wool though....

...................wood, not wool. I added 0.4 cu.ft of "wood" to the inside to decrease internal volume, and bring the box down to 1.6 cu.ft
