I have some speakers in my back. They stick out like a sore thumb cus the dash is a light grey. I would like to fabricate a cover that would 'snap in' and be easily removed if needed. It will cover the back dash from the back of the seat to the window and from side to side. My back dash is concave so it will easily clear the speakers. I eventualy plan on mounting my 10" sub in the back dash too so this cover would then cover that as well. What do I do to get started. I am gonna start with making a carboard template. How would I go about making it so it snaps in nicely...like speaker covers do on home stereos. What kind of materials will I need to make the dash cover and should I only cut holes in it where the speakers are? I want to cover this thing with material when it is done so you don't see any speakers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you want it light, and simple, and it won't support any weight, you could just build a frame, with a couple braces along it, then cover the whole thing over with grill cloth. some velcro strips around the edges should hold it down nicely, you could find that at any craft or sewing shop, or wal-mart.

 

Right on...the velcro is a great idea...I didn't think of that. What material would you recomend for the frame? Just any solid would I have laying around?

 

yep, doesn't need to be anything too strong if all it will hold up is material. just put in 2 or 3 braces running front to back along the length of it, to keep it from flexing when you're taking it in and out.
