Finally something cool and usefull
I love how everyone thinks that by just taking the OEM deck out their car is going to sound better with that 299 POS CD player...........................................
I am going to probably buy that unit and put my factory 6 disc in...................

</font>
It depends on whether the deck has volume dependant eq, where you set the volume **** on the factory deck can have a big effect on how your system performs. If you keep the factory volume **** low, you may not be getting the best performance due to a lower signal into the upstream amps etc. But if you turn up the factory volume **** to properly match signal levels, you may be introducing a bass cut which will also negatievely affect performance.
I think Dukk was saying He isn't using the factory HU at all. He is using a CD changer, with a line volume control to his amps. Therefore, no deck is necessary. The deck doesn't receive or process any of the signal. CD changer display shows him the information and the factory deck sits there idly by.
My question to DUKK is, with that set-up do you have two sets of speakers? OEM running off OEM and good quality running off the rest of your system mounted somewhere else?

^ Nah, the controller has a line input for the factory deck
That way you retain tuner and whatever else from the factory stuff as well as having line level CD sound.
Alpine 5954, Alpine 1203, Alpine 1656s(one I am using), Pioneer M400 (which had an optional tuner so you don't even need the factory deck) and Clarion and Kenwood both made them too.
What makes me is that all of these models were sold in the 90s when cars had 'easily' replaceable radios but now that more and more cars have unreplaceable head units NOBODY makes something like this :frickinglame:
