yeah, is there anything wrong with buying used stuff like... cause seriously im a student and i cant afford an amazing student but i just want something that pounds pretty decent. used stuff is okay as long as you check it out to make sure everythings in good working order and stuff right?

if your buying used its a good idea to buy sumthing that they are still using...so theres a better chance that u know it works. but yah dont buy sumthin that's been sitting forever or looks like its destroyed unless u can test it yourself first

I dont want to hijack the thread but it seems that you are kind of in the same boat as me. a newbie to the hobby with a budget.
there are some really good prices on crutchfield.com.
many might disagree with me but i want to learn on affordable "decent" stuff.
once i get experience and know what i am doing and what i like and what i dont like, then i will spring for the real stuff and give my starter equip to my little cousin.
right now i am shopping for decent stuff that are on "sale" prices.

You can find a lot of good stuff used for less than 400 bux. You will need to make sure you can wire the JL's at 2 ohms final load to get the most out of your monoblock amp. You can get Kicker amps for reasonable prices, and their product is very good.

Hey,
JL makes nice stuff no doubt, but very expensive for what you get. Since you are new with a budget, I would recommend something cheaper.
Either look around on the forums for some used stuff, or grab something off eBay. Example for subs: Kicker L7's. You can grab 1 12", should get plenty loud, sound good in the right box etc and you can probably get it for $200.
There are many other options too. Also, for an amp I'm not sure what there is around for 500 RMS, but I mean, there are 2 Crossfire V2000D's for sale here for $380 each IIRC. That's 2000 watts for under 400 dollars.
Just a few tips that might save you some money. If money isn't an issue, and you like JL, go for it. I wouldn't suggest buying a JL amp unless you find a great deal on it, or unless you have lots of cash. They are just too expensive (at least what I've seen). The subs such as W3's etc aren't bad in price, just a few things that might be a little cheaper for you.
Good luck with whatever you choose.
Thanks.
