Question

About two days ago i was listening to some music and i noticed that my sub was making a rattling sound at low volume. The rattle will come and go at low volume, and once i turn the volume up it goes away. The Sub is a Clif design CD120C (got it just after xmas)rated for 600 watts RMS In a box i made thats 2.5 f^3 tuned to 30 hertz, and my amp is a MA audio KK-102sx putting out 400 watts RMS, bass boost is set to about 1/3 and gain is at 1/4. Im running the amp in my room off a Creative Extigy sound card.

The rattling is a metal on metal rattle as far as i can tell/hear.

Do u ppl have any idea what the rattling could be and if it could be fixed?

And thanx in advance!

Sometimes if you're lucky it can be a loose dustcap or unglued spider but usually it's a burnt coil.
The fact that you can't hear it at higher volume would suggest it is likely a slightly burnt coil.

I've seen subs with a slightly burnt coil be abused for years after the initial damage and they still played.
Of course the coil could be damaged furthur also causing more problems so it's a gamble.
