Start by checking/cleaning/tightening all of your battery and alternator connections.
Then head over to Parts Source or Canadian Tire for a battery or alternator test.
You should make a habit of checking all of those above mentioned connections once a year.

While I would never rule out an alternator on a GM car, his car IS just old enuf that the stock battery is probably done.
Get the appropriate Elimator Spiral Cell for your car. Canadian Tire can check your alternator too - most likely for no charge if you are buying a battery.

i need to know what yr is your car?
is it the stock battery that came with your car?
a battery will last about 5yrs
look at the battery clamps to the wires are they secure if there is play that maybe it or remove wires sand the +/- parts also wire caps secure wires run the car for/go for a drive so time

Hey Tyler, don't you or a family member have a mechanic that you regularly use? Go see them and have him /her do a battery load test to see if the battery is bad. If so replace it, then check to see that the alternator is charging the battery properly, finally if that checks out have them make sure there is no parasitic load( something staying on and draining the battery when the ignition is off). This will ensure that you don't run into the same problem anytime soon. Avoid Canadian Tire as I worked for them for many years and found that they are less than honest when it comes to anything in the automotive department, also they don't do a proper load test on a battery, which should be charged as much as possible before trying to load test it. By the way I was a licensed mechanic for 13 years.

i'm getting experance to become a mechanic if that's what you mean or do you mean the 2 mechanic's that live on either side of my house(three mechanics with in a 100 meter line that's one sweet deal). and as for part source, im not about to drive to lloyd(if they even have one). my car might die on me, im not even sure if it's going to start this mornin. i'm just going to take it to the shop i work at and get them to do a test for me.
dummbest: my car i think has the orig battery, it is a 98 so that battery is way past due.

Batteries last and last
Time isnt the issue, its charging.
Go and get your alternator tested, I repeat.
Trust me, I had the same problem with my Impala, with a 5 year old battery.
I got a high output alternator, and with the SAME battery I have never had a problem again, and It gets stored every winter, even.
Rock On!

i would recommend the optima yellow top (go for the group 31) it's a little pricey but definately worth the $$$. i bought one just before finals and it helped a lot, not only with the sound system but the rest of the elec. system in the car works great and this winter i didn't have to worry about starting the car in the cold, cold, winter.

k im getting 2 sides to this story. one guy say's do the alternater and the other guy say's get a yellow top. i can only afford to do one of these, for right now. i don't want to be disapointed if i get the yellow top and it die's on me cause i still have a stock alternater. and if a get a higher out putting alternater will it keep the battery i have right now from dieing on me again, becuase it will be awhile before i can change it. i need an honest opion. not one that is just one sided.
