A good cheap amp for my subs
#11
So you want 2 250$ amps that will put out 400 watts into 4 ohms each that are class A/B for subs.
When you could get an amp that put out the same power at that impedance for 200$ and it's a class D with an added bonus that you can get different coil configuration later and use 1200 watts @ 1 ohm???
I hope you know the difference between different classes of amps.
Hmm lets look at othe differences. Mine has a 24db/oct crossover/ sony has a 12db/oct. Mine has a 24db/oct subsonic filter/sony does not. Mine has a remote bass controller/sony does not. Mine has preamp outputs/sony does not. Mine.... Nevermind hopefully you got it by now.
I'm not shooting smoke out of my @ss., I know what I am talking about when I say it is a better amp. But if you really don't want it thats fine, I'll respect that. I would just rather see audio enthusiast get good equiptment.

for your situation i would recommend a 2 channel amp running at 4ohms mono. Mono block amps are set up to run 2ohm loads, which you won't be able to run with your current sub setup.
If you go back to the Future Shop I would go with the Rockford 401s (399.99--400watts bridged at 4ohms, remote bass ****)or the MTX 282 (299.99--280watts bridged at 4ohms) Sony Xplod for the most part is pure death-the stuff is called explode for a reason. Remember a good amp is going to cost you about a buck a watt--if something sounds too good to be true it probably is.

None of the amps I'm going to use have any of that garbage on them. But of course I'll be using an active crossover setup on the system.
12db/octave is fine for bass. If your deck has a low pass sub filter, use it. If not, make sure that the amp has at least a low pass crossover. Selectable or variable crossover points help, too.
It more or less also comes down to what you want to spend. The Sony XM 2165GTX is a good deal, and will work with your setup if you load it down to 4 ohms mono.

i jsut dont see why you would buy a 2 channel for subs. a/b amps draw more current, and most out there arnt even 2 ohm mono stable which means you dont ahve many options when it comes to upgrade. buy a nice mono amp that will do aprox 1000 rms at 1 ohm and youll enver need to buy another sub amp again. my first sub amp i bought was a 2 channel and ill never buy another one for my sub again.
class d mono block = more power, more options , less current draw.
that sony says 400 rms bridged right , well tahst at 4 ohms, what happend if you go buy 2 4 ohm svc subs ?? you wont beable to use that amp anymore cause it isnt 2 ohm mono stable. and all you gettin gis 400 watts. where as for example a jbl 1200. puts out 1200 at 1 ohm , 600 at 2 or 300 at 4, so you have much more options down teh road.
