Question Good deal ? Alpine 7909 30th anniversary model

I miss my old 7909 and want to get another one ! Even though financially I shouldnt...check out this badboy that I'm in the process of buying. Just got pics today. He has 4 left.
1997 Alpine 7909 30th anniversary model brand new in box.
He wants $1250 U.S. Shipped.
you think it's worth it ? Or should I get a Alpine 7995 BNIB instead ?

Wow, $1250. Wasn't that what they were priced at when new? If that deck is worth the price to you, then pay it. Would I? No. I wouldn't pay that for any head unit anymore. I like the new top of the line Alpine but that's only $400. I like the DRZ-9255 or one of the cool new Pioneer offerings like the 880 or their Japan-only P9 replacement. That's a cool deck though. Personally, I don't think it's worth any more than 1/2 that, even if NIB.

Rob what DAC are you feeding? If you're not feeding something like an H900, ProAudio gear or the ever cursed Bitone. I don't see the point.

I'm using a Denon Z1 which falls on equal playing fields. I use it strickly for comps since parts are next to none and pricy to repair.

It's a great unit, no question there. If I may suggest, make sure you SEE it working before purchasing. Just like the original ones, some of the capacitors had a tendency dry/leek over time. If so, you will see this 7909 smoke when powered up... not kidding.

Good luck!

bottom line is, its a realllly nice deck, but it is 12 years old. As good as it may be, I wouldn't pay half that. If you want to spend that kind of money, get some newer technology with the DRZ-9255, DVA-9965, P9 combos, or even the P9 relacement DEH-P800PRS.

....so pretty much exactly what Tubeamp said, lol

Yes there are many newer options out there, but they dont look old/vintage
like the 7909. This unit is brand new never opened.

get a nakamichi if you want a classic vintage look. CD700II

the Clarion DRZ-9255 doesn't look a whole lot different than the 7909 actually.
