I had a Phoenix Gold Octane R 8.0.4 amp installed a few days ago. It worked fine for 2 days but now as soon as it's turned on it starts cutting in/out - the protect light blinks and the logo light dims/brightens about once per half second. Nothing in the manual about a blinking protect light and PG tech support doesn't have a clue as to what it means either!

It's not heat related (system was off for nearly 24 hours) and it can't be a speaker short (I disconnected all speaker leads and RCA cables and it still happens). Fuses are fine. I installed it in another vehicle (just the power, ground and remote wires) and it still does it. I took it apart and couldn't see anything suspicious inside.

Unfortunately this was an eBay purchase so no warranty. Any place (say in Calgary) that might be a good bet to try and fix it? Otherwise what 4 channel amps that output at least 60 watts RMS per channel would you guys recommend?

Rockford fosgate punch 4004(50x4...but puts out 70watts or so x 4), I've had it for 1.5 years and I've tortured it by running it bridged at 2ohms(channels 3+4) into 2 12" subs for more than 3 months at 30 on the Alpine volume **** with no problems in the summer(does get pretty warm but did not shut down. Sounds great too. The kenwood 4x60 amp is also a great best buy at around $250.00, never had a problem with their amps...lots of friends have them too.

I run my TRU Technology 4.100 for at least 3hrs HARD (and I mean HARD) everyday. It came with a lifetime warranty when I got it from a dealer in Toronto. Check them out, I maybe upgrading to the copper series soon.

by the way you should buy local and help feed the economy. its cheaper in the long run as you get warranty.

Talk to Team Shadow (aka Pat) on the forums. He should be able to help you get it repaired

I wouldn't mind buying local at all if there was a dealer who could even be bothered ordering what I want in. None of what I have installed was available locally or easily available in this country. And the price I paid is generally a bit less than one-half of the cost if I could get it here. So even with this lemon, I guess I've saved enough to buy it twice more. But I'll will look locally before anywhere else.

It's been my experience that electronics either work and keeps on working or doesn't work at all. This amp was an exception to that rule though.

I bought a QX2350 bout three years ago through Ebay (no apologies since at that time I couldn't afford to buy Canadian). I run it with my volume turned waaaayyyyy up all the time, including the time I drove from Toronto to Saskatoon.

It still works fine. I'm considering buying a Xenon with more power, but there seems to be a lot of negative waves about the newer Phoenix Gold products.
