Yes the Sony stuff is OK (no "SONY sukz" crap from me), but I think that if a person has a given amount of money to spend, and they can get some more for the money, then thats even better. Though I dont have any long-term experience with sony, they never my choice because of its price vs. its performance. [My experience with sony car audio is limited to what friends have purchased, and what I have auditioned when looking for my own equipment (I am more than willing to give sony a try).]

However, having said all that somegirl, if you have looked at other options for similar money and you are happy with it, then thats great, and let us know how it all sounds when its in the car. I just wanted to encourage you to shop around because you describe yourself as a newbie. If there is a good place to learn how to purchase wisely, this place is a good one.

Imo those sony subs work great for the money. Ive installed almost every brand of speaker in almost every kind of box. Im not a fan of the sony name! but, those subs work amazing in a ported box. The first box I built for those subs blew my mind. I've built maybe 10 different ported boxes for those ugly little subs and the kids are always happy. At the end of the day, isn't that what it's about

Sony amps have performed well for me in the past, but the head units have all given me trouble. The subs, I've never used.

I will agree about the head units... my sisters b/f had nothing but problems with his new sony deck... i read through the owners manual and it didn't even specify the pre-out voltage... which makes setting your gains a pain

i was gonna buy a friends sony amp once....(near the beginning of my stereo days). i put it in...yes properly and sufficient wiring. ran it under rated conditions.. and after a little bit of driving was hot enough to scare my *** away from ever thinking of placing any sony equipment in my car but if u want a portable 12 volt frying pan for those tailgating parties.. it would work nicely...

not too sure about the newwer stuff though

Sadly to say, my first stereo was completely Xplod.

It did puuurday well for what it was, but then it got stolen. Poor idiots.

I definately wouldnt buy the stuff again since i gained a knowledge of decent brands, but for someone whos looking to drive around and bump to some tunes, they're alright.
