Exclamation Help! Alpine Nav Problem

Hey everyone... gotta stupid question for the people in the know.

I have an Alpine IVA-D310 - I purchased it about a year ago and have been very happy with it. I was always planning on buying the navigation feature for it until I recently found out the compatible Alpine unit runs for about $1600 USD. That's more than the f@@@king head unit itself!
(Alpine NVE-N872A)

Is there any way I can buy another make and still attach it to the Alpine head unit Nav input?

Perhaps I will just be better off buying a garmin or something?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

No, sorry it doesn't work like that. The other option is to pick up a Alpine Blackbird ($599), similar to garmin style GPS, along with a PMBDOK1($249) and that will give you the portable style unit with the dock so that you can control it off the screen. This would normally be the best option as for "Bang for your buck" but i had some issues doing this with the IVAD100, maybe it works better with the 310, never tried it. You get what you pay for, the nven872a is a outstanding peice, but the price is hard to swallow.

i say just buy a standalone gps unit like the garmin or whatever if you dont want to spend that much on the gps unit. i wouldnt. the HU itself costs like 900$.
