hey, you guys usually have good advice.. tell me what i can do .. I need to install an after market cd/mp3 player in my 1990 mercury topaz. I have no clue how to get the stock Ford Tape/FM deck out ... it has 4 holes.. 2 on either side of the deck... but unlike hondas.. i'm not sure how the dash comes off so you can get to the screws that hold the deck in place.... any info or help would be greatly appreciated...

it isn't held in place by screws.

What you need to do is grab a metal coat hanger that you don't need. Cut out the bottom wire, and then cut that in two evenly. You then bend each piece into a U so that each side is about even and parallel to each other. Stick each U into the two openings on each side (the holes that you described). Push outwards on both and pull out. The deck should come out pretty easy. Or you could just by the din tool for $10 that is the same as the above mentioned bent coat hanger.

just be careful with the coat hanger as Ive heard stories of people getting their decks stuck in the dash when they try the coat hanger trick cause they break the tabs inside and bend them.

I believe there is actually a ford factory deck removal tool if you are weary of using a coat hanger. I think it looks like two horseshoe shaped metal rods that fit into those holes on the sides. I believe it can be purchased at sounddomain or crutchfield.

Have a dealership remove it for you. It takes them 10 seconds to do it and if they are nice guys they won't even charge you.
