Help with subs n amp please

I bought a sub and amp today but think i bought the wrong setup?

amp: ZX300.1 Kicker:
# mono subwoofer amplifier
# 150 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (300 watts x 1 at 2 ohms)
# low-pass filter (80 Hz at 24 dB per octave)
# subsonic filter (25 Hz)
# bass boost (12 dB at 40 Hz)
# 2 ohms

sub: Kicker CVR124 CompVR Series 12" Subwoofer
# 400 watt
# 4 ohms

about all i know about it, please help i don't know anything about systems. I'm guessing i need a higher powered amp?

if the sub would be DUAL 4ohm that amp would do fine. unless that amp has a bridging capabilitys like i seen on some other monoblocks

but in other words yes you need a bigger amp. at 4ohm you would need around 300 to 400watts

Well...it'll work, just not as well as it could. Your amp is not matched to your sub properly. You can take your sub back and get a dual 4ohm voice coil version, then you can wire it parallel and create a 2ohm load for your amp. This get the most out of the amp...300watts rms @ 2ohms...and will power your sub much better. Your other option is to get an amp that will deliver 400watts rms into a 4ohm load...that's the route i'd take if it was possible.

If it's dual 4ohm...then you're good to go...make sure you follow the wiring diagram for a parallel 2ohm final load. Your amp will give you 300 watts rms at that point.
