how long will my battary last if..

Like some of you may know I'm working security for a job right now as discussed in my previous thread it sometimes requires me to sit in my car for hours at a time, the site I'm on now requires me to eat my lunch in my car, the owners a complete bitch and is rediculous and won't let me eat in the perfectly good staff room. In the summer months it has been ok but now that the winter is here its proving to be the gay. I'm trying to cut back on costs since I don't make much anyways if it can save me 20 bucks a week ill do it.

Now ontopic, I have a ac - dc converter and a small heater fan for in the house, if I plug this in will I be ok for 30 mins with my battary or could it possibly damage my battary? I have a normal ac delco battary in a 99 grand am gt. If this doesn't work I may consider getting a small heater that runs on propain or something.

And advice appreciated!

Would have to know the wattage of the heater and the age of your battery. This is not likely a good idea anyway since electric heat is not very effective, it requires too much storage capacity. A propane heater inside your car would consume all the oxygen. What kind of site is this? Could you plug the car into an AC outlet somewhere?

I wonder how RVs heat in the winter? Anyone know a way to get propane heat into a vehicle while keeping the stove outside?

I say use a big coat, double-socks, a good pair of boots and some nice gloves. Plus maybe a Snuggie. Preferably one with an obnoxious print.

You should be good for hours in a getup like that. Might even be sweating.

Electricity is actually the most efficient form of heating - it is just not well suited for a car. A watt is a watt and any half decent heater is going to be 1000watts.

An RV has a gas burning forced air furnace just like a house. Mine does.

A portable propane heater is an ok option if you keep the windows open an inch or so. Reality though is that, over the course of a winter, it will cost you less in gasoline to idle your car for half an hour than to buy and operate a propane heater Get a couple of hot water bottles and fill them before your break.

Agreed, it's 100% efficient but not effective in a vehicle. The best solution would be for him to plug in somewhere and use electric heat. Someone else's electricity.

Electric blanket + loss a$$ extension cord and use the companies electricity. Snap clic heating pads might work as well. No recharging, no power use, just snap the element, you have heat for two hours. Go home, boil water and return the thing to use again.
