ok I didnt think something through. I have a ford ranger and am only putting 1 sub in my truck. I bought a dvc 250 watt rms 4 ohm sub. Now i have 2 choices:

1)series the 2 coils to create an 8 ohm load(i have a rf amp that i was gonna use to push 250 watts rms to, but now it looks like im only gonna be pushin 125 watts because of the 8 ohm load) which im sure i will do.

2)By another dvc sub and parallel

I definatley should have bought a single coil, 4 ohm sub for this application but didn't think through and wouldn't want any one else to make same error. Just felt like venting, and it looks like i'll be able to hold off on the big 3 now for awhile. Are there any advantages of running an 8 ohm load besides drawing less current?

go back and get a dual 2ohm if you still can, or a single 4, or 2 8ohm svc's

 

or just run one coil on your sub.

 

^ a viable option... just keep in mind there will be a risk of damage if you put a whole 250watts to a single coil....

the other option is to run at 2ohms and just be carfull with the gain setting so you arnt overdriving the amp... (you may or may not get 250watts before things get distorted...)

 

not much of a risk though, since both coils will dissipate heat still. but still a small risk... more of a risk running a tweeter off of a 120 RMS amp... but lots of us do that.
