i have a feeling my amp is busted.
i have a feeling my amp is busted.
so today my amp started going into protect after maybe 10-15 seconds of listening to loud bass. if i have low levels of bass then it doesn't go into protect. it never did this before which is why i am confused.
the amp now goes into protect as soon as i give it a signal to make it turn on. my subs make a light thud, lights dim and then it goes into protect.
i'm thinking the amp is messed up and i want to replace it, so what better time BUT, i'm worried it might be getting dirty power from my alternator, if that's possible?
- the amp is not warm or hot in any way, so i know it's not a thermal issue.
- volt meter says it's getting 14.4 volts.
it's a Sony XM-D9001GTR, not nearly the best i know but all i have.
thoughts? i'm likely going to be replacing the amp but as i said i want to make sure i'm not missing anything and it's the amp that's broken, nothing else.
on a side note, what do you guys thing of Visonik? thinking about buying that one in the for sale section.

i removed the subs and it still does that, forgot to mention it in the OP.
EDIT:
i just removed the amp from my car and hooked it up to a spare car battery i have (tested 12.2 volts) then hooked it up to the amp. with no inputs i put 12v to the remote sensor and again it goes right into protect.
