all cars are disposable. I thought my first ride would last forever. I was always saving money for upgrades, but spent it all on repairs. It was cheaper to get a newer car.
Same thing happened with the next car. As it got older and got more miles, I was spending more in maintenance than i would spend on payments for a brand new car.
Since then, I'm now driving the 6th Car i've bought brand new. Yes, the 3 Cav Z24's were disposable, but i traded others in and always upgraded.

Newer cars come with more built in electronics and conveninience features. So, most newer cars come with a fair sized alternator.
Newer cars are way easier to work on, no rust. and you don't even get dirty running power wire through the chassis.

Meh, maybe you had a dud or maybe I'm lucky. My 2001 Z24 has 88k on her, and the only thing I've ever had to fix was a tire (today, actually). No squeaks, runs perfect, burns no oil and gets 40mpg on the highway if I drive nice.
Good cheap transportation. Literally 1000000x more reliable than my brother's 98 Neon Sport with the DOHC engine. LOL, not even remotely comparable.

Mine isn't bad in terms of comfort. When I go back home to visit (850km each way), I'm not sore at all after the trip. It's alot stiffer than my best friend's 2.2ohv cav, but I've been in alot worse. Absolutely no rust on mine, anywhere either. She's not the fastest thing in the world, but 0-60 in ~7.7secs, and mid-15 second 1/4 mile times bone stock aren't horrible for an econobox IMO. Never had any troubles merging with traffic or passing anyone (even with the 5spd).

I'm not a chev guy by a long shot, but my Z24 has treated me pretty well so far. No reason to ditch her for something else, at least not yet.
