i just bought a memphis pr-16kd or something like that. anyway i instaled it set the gains and went to work. while driving a really sweet bassy tune came on the radio so i turned it up ...way up. so im driving cars thump'in and shaking. and i smell something i've never smelt before.and this time it wasn't the TACO BELL.so i turned it down in the hopes that it wasnt my subs. got to work.didnt think anything of it.went to leave and i remembered the smell. so istarted the car popped the trunk and gave them a listen. i shouldn't have done that. the smell was back.it smelt like something your dad let go and blinded the dog.oh yah i HAD two vega 12d4. so i guess what im asking is. is my amp to powerfull for the subs or is it a wiring thing. and before you say the gain is prob to high it's at half.so please let me know about this. you guys know more then i do. and on a nother note audiopipe or audiobahn.

your amp may be over heating itself and slowly burning itself or your carpet.

What awg wiring are you using? you should inspect all of your wiring to see if there is anything melting. I doubt you would fry your subs, but it is possible. I'm not familiar with that cerwin line, but check the RMS power handling to ensure you are not overpowering them. If its not the wiring, and not the subs, then I would probably say its your amp's internals, which is bad. But check the obvious things first, like wiring. An amp like that should not be wired using 10awg power/ground wire.
