Well I helped put in some new equipment in a friends 4runner before. His rear speakers were factory amped, just something to remember and check on yours. The best that you can do would be to get a nice deck, a set of components for the front, a 2 or 4 chan amp if you want to keep the rear speakers, and a substage. He has a single 12" pioneer premier tsw3002 on about 700 watts. It sounds pretty good. I'm not too sure what is available locally, as I buy all my stuff online. If you want to run more power than that, you will need to upgrade the electrical system, battery(s), big 3, larger alt.

Without having to upgrade your electrical system to much outside of the big 3, 1000Wrms for sub stage and a 2 or 4 channel amp at about 100X2 or X4 to run front comp sets and/or your rears if you like rear sound will work for amps. Subs if you are into the top 40, rap type music a nice pair of 12" in a ported box will belt out more then you need.

What type of sound are you hunting for and type of music?

This sounds like the perfect excuse for a road trip. Get in your 4runner, drive up and see me. It is exactly a 1 hour drive at the posted 110 km/h speed limit from Rock City Center to my store here in Courtenay.

What do you have in the vehicle already that you want to keep using? Will you be adding to the system in the future?

There is lots of things that you can do in your 4runner. So many options it is not even funny. Build your system up in stages, a good cd player and some speakers to start with for sure. If you are after bass overload (which is easy to do), it is easy to blow your budget on subs and a amp alone. This means that being able to listen to your system is that much more difficult. Your front and rear speakers will not be able to keep up with the bass that is coming out of the back. A system needs to be balanced, do it a step at a time here. Your budget can get a good system, a great system though, increase the budget some. I am summising that you are interested in new equipment with full warranty as well.
