Well, I'm going to kill your budget shguld you try and do it all at once. If you are interested in a system with better tonal response, it is time to rethink the budget in order to get there. Have a game plan and stick to that plan, that will get you the desired results that you seek without buying the wrong equipment.

The most important speakers are the front speakers. They should ideally be a component set, you can match the rear doors the same should you like but if saving a couple of $ is the case, a 2way or 2way speaker for the rear is alright. Personally I would use the factory speakers and throw an amplifier on them. The factory speakers actually sound alright in that car, especially with an amp on them. Consider also not using rear speakers right now and adding those $$$$ to the front ones to get a good set of front component speakers. You can always add new rear speakers down the road. A 6.75" component speaker may not fit in this car, this leaves either basic 6.5" component speakers or good 5.25" component speakers (the good ones have much larger baskets on them and approach the 6.5" size). MB Quart has a kick butt deal on Q-line components right now (I did not buy them but should have), they are on sale for about 60% off of normal dealer cost (clearout time at the distributor). I would need to check to see if they still have them. I would not recommend the coax in the door and a 4" in the dash for a ideally sounding system. Keep it simple here, woofer in the door, tweeter in the dash (should you like it there).

Same goes for the cd player, while a Eclipse to my ears is going to school the Ghost (and I sold both lines at the same time), it is one item that you can continue to use and channel the $$$ you were going to spend on a new head back into building a long term good system. Again you can replace this item down the road.

You are the perfect candidate for a 5 channel amplifier. Does not have to be a monster but does need to be balanced for good power in the front and rear as compared to the sub. You do not want to be an overwhelming bass monster.

Ross (2 8's aka Jeepbeats) has a kick *** 5 channel amp for sale right now in the FS forum. It is rated 50w rms x 4 and 300w rms x 1. It is going for a fraction of it's normal price of over $1000.00. He might settle for $300.00 for it but I also have a customer looking at it right now. I too know a good deal when I see one. My favorite 5 channel amp to work with is the Eclipse XA5000, 50 w rms x 4 and 450w rms x 1. It is a new ICEpower class D amp and is absolutely an amazing amplifier. Sadly though, it is not a $500.00 amplifier. It retails for $900.00 but with some crafty deals from your truly it can be found at a better price. This is by far a better way for you to go by using the $$$ from the cd player to subsidize the amp purchase.

For a sub in this car I will again default to a known true performer. Time and time again in this exact car I have used the Eclipse aluminum cone sub with results that left people wondering. It needs a 1.25 cu.ft sealed box and you should easily have some $$$ left towards a custom box for it. The box if you do it right can be glassed into the corner of the vehicle to allow for maximum trunk space. The amp can be mounted to the other side of the vehicle. (put the sub on the opposite side of the vehicle from the fuel door filler).

it is called tri-tuned because each port helps the other one out through the range of Freq.

I think i have seen a few pics of one on the site before. They work really well, and you won't need a big expensive sub to make it loud.

Hopefully i got this all correct
Pretty much...it is also known as an ABC box. It stands for Aperiodic Bi-Chambered enclosure....Dukk had a thread on Termpro a few years ago about these boxes that was still active after 4 years and almost 900 posts.

The 2 chambers are tuned 1 octave apart, giving you the gain of a bandpass enclosure with the smooth response of a regular ported box. They are very picky as far as measurements go....any part of it that's not the right size will make it sound like crap.....

TLC and bigred....I've seen these before but knew them as "ABC". What I didn't know was the theories and acoustical characteristics of such a design...Thx for clarifying...

You're welcome....

I went onto the Termpro board to see if the thread is still around, but no luck.....if you have more time you might want to track it down, there was a lot of info in that thread.....
