Exclamation Weird PXW1552 issue ?

Well I had my subwoofer mounted magnet out of my old box to help save room in my trunk, and turned it around due to the very bad wind noise coming from the hole in the middle of the magnet, not sure what its called...

But the problem, well not really a problem is, the sticker on the sub said PXW 1552 Dual 2 ohm
But, there was a sticker underneith that one that said PXW 1552 Dual 4 ohm.

It was ordered from the local clarion rep to replace a blown 15 of a previous model line that was single 4 ohm... Anyone know how I can tell what this sub really is ?

Thumbs up

The hole is the vent in the back plate that allows cooling air to flow around the voice coil(s).

To check the speaker, unhook the leads from the amp and put a meter across the terminals the speaker wires were hooked up to.....they should read around 3.8ohms for a dual 2ohm driver with the coils in series, and around 7.6ohms for a dual 4ohm driver......

Since you had a problem with a 4ohm SVC driver, I'm going to guess they had a DVC4ohm sub come in blown up, replaced the coils with 2 2ohm coils, and sent it to you so you can have a single 4ohm load again.....good part is the DVC generally handles a little more power than the SVC version....

HTH

yes that could be the case I suppose, except I think that line had just come out in 2005 when I got it, either way I got a much better subwoofer than I had before... and my amp is rated at 800w RMS at both 2 and 1 ohm so it really makes no differance to me,
I was just curious as to if they were trying to trick me by slapping a sticker on a sub that as far as I knew only came in dual 4 ohm
