i thought (knowing i dont know much) that the cap is like a small battery but let the car power it when it wasn't turned up loud. and this one thats being offered is a 6 farad. wouldn't that be ok on the alternator and battery? i dont know what my alternator is rated for. but im guessing not very much at all since its stock and old. when i had my sony 900watt rms on it strobed my lights.(didnt have a cap back then)

The battery is the power supply when the car is off. When running, the battery is called on when the alternator has reached it's peak output and the demand exceeds that output. A cap can help by storing a given amount of energy, and when the alternator has peaked, the cap will discharge in an effort to avoid battery drainage. A cap takes much less time to recharge than a battery does, so in smaller systems, they can benefit. Realistically, the bigger the alternator, the more power you have on tap when running, the more batteries you have, the more storage of power is available when the alternator has peaked or when the car is off.

You should take a look through the for sale section here on the forums. There is alot of high quality gear for decent prices. For example:
http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/onli...mps-450-a.html
^^^^nice amp for sale
http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/onli...atcap-btl.html
^^^^I personally like this deal alot.
It's a 15, so it's big, but it's 2kw, has the extra batteries you will need, is a good deal, and is competition grade gear. I can't imagine it being as musical as a 10 or 12, but if you want slam, this will deliver, and it appears to be within your budget...... Food for thought

What's the vehicle? An 18 needs space.... And it's pure SPL, not musical. At this point, for simplicity, I would stick to either the 15 I just suggested (it's proven itself to work) or that MTX 12" setup you found. Both setups will give you what you're looking for. I think you'd be safer with the 15" as the original owner is most likely more trustworthy than a random Kijiji ad. Not to take away from whoever is selling the MTX setup, I don't know who it is. They are local tho, so no shipping to worry about.... But the 15 comes with a box already made to rock and roll.... There are trade offs on both sides, but either one will deliver the results you want.

i just called the one guy about the MTX and he said that he runs 0 gauge to the Cap and 2 4 gauge to the Amp. said he never ran a bigger alternator. but at ilde it strobled the lights alittle if he crancked it.
