Install Order

Hey there,

OK, assume that you have a horrible factory system (that is, all the stock components suck), and you want to upgrade, but can't do it all at once. Items that seem to need done (in no particular order):

- Door deadening
- Head unit
- Nice components for front
- Amp(s)
- Subwoofer

Lets say you will do it all over a few months... what's the best order?

Thanks,
Creosote.

components and head units at the same time, then sub and amp at the same time, lastly the deadining. you have to have all the gear to see if you really need the deadining in your car.

Puchase and install cd player and amp wiring.
Purchase sound deadener.
Purchase front speakers.
Install front speakers and deadener.
Purchase amp.
Purchase sub and box.
Install amp, sub and box.

The sub system is one of the more expensive items due to the need of the amp, the sub, the box and the proper install. It is more expensive again if you choose to have a proper box made for the sub vs. a generic prefab that you hope for the best with.

Take it a step at a time here. Why I choose to buy the deadener at the beginning and install it early is simple, as a dealer does it make sense for me to charge the customer twice to do the same work? If we follow the process listed above, the customer has paid me to take the vehicle apart to install his speakers, has paid me to install the amp and sub, has paid to have the system up and running so it can be used, now he has to pay me again to take the system out and take the car apart again to install the deadener. Seems kind of a backwards way of doing things.

On the other hand, if you can wait..
You'll get a better deal buying all at once.
Package deals are where you save money at most shops.
Package deals on installing the whole system will be better than installing one piece at a time.

i agree with buddy above me. but do the HU and components first. then run the wiring for the amp. shop around for sure for the sub(s) and amp(s). in fact check the for sale section here, there are some really good deals from some good people as far as i can see. when you do it make sure you dont cheap out on wiring and the sub box. 2 very crucial elements to your setup. good luck
