Installing my system on my own for the first time...
#1
So...i got a new jeep and it's been harsh living with out the stereo. Got the alarm/starter installed a few days ago, and finally....i had tues and part of wed off to install the stereo.
I left work early on monday, got home at about 3...figured i'd get a start on the stereo...had plans of running the cables from the dash, down to the passenger side of hte vehicle...turns out after takin the whole dash apart, thats impossible, so then i took the whole drivers side dash apart and wired the speaker wire/rca's down by the steering wheel and then under the carpet thru the center console and to the back.
So...i got the dash apart the on monday...had things figured out....started takin the driver seat out (4 bolts), got three bolts off which were hella tight and hard to get off....then the forth bolt brakes in half and i'm unable to get the seat out, ****SUCKER! So i put my seats n dash in my bro's vehicle for hte night and give up.
Next morning, Tuesday i start at about 12....get the wiring at the HU done and get the wires thru the center console under the carpet to the rear. It begins to rain, so i don't get much done. Rains hard all day FRICK!
Wednesday, i'm up at 8am workin in below zero weather...it sucks working with sharp plastic in cold weather. Take apart most of my rear part of the jeep, only to not be able to find a ground...son bitch! Finally after a while i chizzeled away at some paint and got one and hooked up the rest of the stereo. I half assed the power wire as i was running outta time and semi ticked off.
Get everything wired up, so i thought, give it a try...deck turns on....amps don't. Holy mary mother of god....why aren't they turning on. Pull the deck out to find out my remote turn on wire some how came out. So i fix that...and we have ignition....it works....yet it sounds prety ****ty. None of the amps had been touched, and i woulda thought, moving the subs from a trunk to an suv...should sound louder.
So at this point i'm kinda sad and really disappointed with how things sound. For the heck of it i check the wiring of the subs to the amp and find one outta phase. Fix that up...and hot damn they pound!
It's so intense to have the stereo back and it's way louder in the suv compared to the trunk.
PS: no i will not be showing pics as currenlty it's a mess of wires in the back and the power cable just truns along the floor at the moment lol. If i can come up with an idea of what kinda box to build in order to make the back of my jeep useful, maybe i'll get some pics then....all in all, it's just hella nice to have the stereo back!!!

Dude that's funny. I mean, I know exactly what it's like to have that stuff happen to you.
Good to hear it turned out ok for you.
I had my toy torn apart for 2 weeks. At the end of it, I didn't care about the stereo....I just wanted to have my vehicle back.

First time you turn everything on, most of us always close our eyes right off the bat........ and if nothing explodes, we then open the eyes and hope not to see smoke or flames. Another thing is exploding gas tanks, but that's a whole nother story

Hey
I seem to recall slowly opening my eyes after several (re: a whole lotta) hours of install to see my amps (all 3 of them) with the indicator lights glowing red. After much cursing and despair, I discovered that's the standard running indication (I could have sworn it was supposed to be blue!!). Live and learn...

I really hate that moment when it's someone else's car... get everything hooked up and then S#!T I forgot something, and we have to rip everything out again... but I really do know what I'm doing, honest!!

hah thats why i don't put anything back together till i know it works! Not that i don't trust myself...i semi know what i'm doing...i can generally tell other people how to do this stuff...but i don't trust myself...and don't like workin on my own vehicle.
Hate drilling holes and sometimes figuring out how the dash panels come off is a pain....i have a fair amount of left over screws...some on purpose others...well i dunno where they came from :S
How the heck do installers keep track of what screws came from where....i try and match it up if i have 4 of one type of screw...and 4 hoels...it's kinda straight forward...but thats not always the case!
Ah well...now i need a new box!
Anyone got any suggestions of how i could build a box where i could still possibly utilize the trunk portion of the jeep.
I've got a spare tire on the driver side which cuts down the width...and my seats do fold down the passenger side seat is a single person, and the driver side is like 1.5x as wide. I'll put a pic up when i get home...cause i can't think of anything!
