ISO: 10" Purely SQ Subwoofer, 0.8cf SEALED

I'm looking for the best 10" SQ subwoofer that will sound great in a 0.8cf box, and has a mounting depth of 7 1/4" or less.

My amp pumps out 500 RMS @ 4 ohm, 900 @ 2 ohm, and 1000 @ 1 ohm. I am willing to spend up to $400 for the right subwoofer, but the cheaper the better really because I'm not looking for anything with ridiculous output, purely SQ!

My choices right now are:

- 10" Image Dynamics IDQ (dual 2 ohm)
- SSA Icon 10" (dual 2 or 4 ohm)
- 10 W6V2 (My ideal choice, but only comes in dual 4 ohm so my amp is too powerful)

I'm not sure if there are other woofers out there that are better or equal? What would be the best woofer on a price/performance scale? Interested to see your opinions...

Thanks in advance!

if the w6 is your sub of choice why not get that and just be conservative with your gains

900 watts RMS would still be pushing it, no? I want the W6v2 because the grill you can purchase for it would protect it and people say its one of the best SQ subs out there... this is going into the spare tire area of an s2000 btw.

nope. the amp is capable of 900 rms ratts safely at two ohms, which is basically a warning that you shouldn't expect too much more from the amp at that impedance. that might be a half turn on the gain dial, so turning the gain all the way down and then making the slightest of adjustments should give you the power you're looking for without overpowering the sub. plus things like box rise and such will probably change the output of the amp. car audio is weird like that.

what amp is it?

like fresh1 mentioned your amp is fine with the w6, having more power is a good thing. A 200w amp will go into clipping and blow the sub way faster than sending a clean 7-800 watts, adjust the system properly and you will be happy.

as for sub choice I heard good thing about the JL and IDQ, the ICON on ther other hand is not a pure SQ sub, they are a bit on the SPL side but for some it could be a good thing.

id suggest you take a look at the Stereo Intergrity BM, it's a shallow 12 inch that need only 0.5 cuft and will dig very low. You could hide it completely under a false floor for a truly stealth install.

That's not what I'd call sound quality, it'll lack the lows. If you put a 10 in a small sealed box it'll have a high roll-off. Look for a 10" LMS driver that needs a small box, it'll roll off around < 40hz. Or port a 10 in .9cf3 net @ 30hz.
