Orion hcca

Ok here is 1 of soon to be 2 of the massive 40 pound beast that I just got. I was wondering how to mount these suckers. Its not like a regular sub thats for sure. Do I have to use the wood that it came with in the box? Has alan bolts.....weird and they are only in 4 corners not all the way around.....idk. Any help is great.

So do I use the alan bolts that it came with and put the nuts on the back or just use screws instead? Also I was looking at the specs on the orion website and it say for seald 10" .9 cubes and for ported it say .75 cubes. I am confused. Why would it be smaller for ported?

I would use what it came with, but if not, a solid coarse thread screw should work fine.

As for the enclosure specs, it might just be a typo, i would have to look up the manual.

Ok I think I will use what it came with. It will suck it down tighter that way. Strange that it only bolts down on the corners. I guess the basket is ridged enough to make a seal. Good thing it comes with a gasket.

Those specs are from the pdf manual on the orion website. Mabye I am not understand the vas or whatever. Would you mind reading it and tell me what you think. It is the d4 10"

SO after reading the manual, it suggests to use a 1.7 cubic foot enclosure if only using 1500rms or less, and .75 cubes if you are using 1500rms or more.

Depending on the power going to the subwoofer, I think you would be safe with an enclosure that is 1.25 cubic feet after displacement @ 38hz

The box I am putting them in ( once I get my second hcca ) is 2.25 cubes internal tuned to 40 hz. I will be giving them about 750-900 rms per. Ya think that will work?

They would be in about .8 - .9 cubes each after displacement. I had 2 10" re audio sx's in the same box and it slammed hard off the same amp. I expect the same or more from the orions. Hopefulley they won't smell like burnt plastic like the re's did.

It should be alright. I think if you ever plan to rebuild an enclosure, it should be around 3 cubic feet @ 38hz with a good amount of bracing.

You know its funny. I am not sure who it was but they told me to build a box at 2.5 cubes tuned to 35 hz for the re's with the port and subs forward walled off. I did and it was worse then this box now ( 2.25 cubes subs forward ports up ) so I am willing to bet that this box will slam too. I like this smaller box cause that way I can get my spare tire in the trunk. I couldn't with the other box. In any case I will give this one a go when I get my second sub. I got this one off craigslist brand new in seald packaging for 180. I don't think I will find a deal like that for the second one. I guess they are around 330 us online.
