JBL BPx2200.1 on 3 12W6v2's?

Alright guys, I've got a buddy that may sell me his BPx2200.1. The owners manual says 2450W rms @ 4 ohms and 1810W rms at 1 ohm. This is going to blow my 3 12W6v2's out of their sealed boxes right? Is there a way to safely install and lower the juice a little? I paid a lot of money for those W6v2's. I don't want to kill one of them.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,
Paul

I wouldnt suggest more than 1800-2000rms

Ya, I run them as 3 - wired to 8 ohms. The final wiring at amp is 2.67 ohms. Now, my deck preouts are only 4 volts and the amp adjusts for 6 volts and the manual says 7 volts. This should help lower the power a little right? The only way to lower the power to the 1 ohm load (1800 rms) is by using some "parrallel" feature. Then the load must be below 2 ohms. I can't achieve that with my setup. Keeping in mind this is my daily driver.

do you plan on doing some elctrical upgrades?
if you are super careful with gains and such, it can be done.

but if you get excited at a show, they are sure to fail after a while

I run a 160 amp alt now. Big 3 using 2 ga. My distribution block has room for both 4 ga inputs. What do you think? My deck has sub control also.

Manual says dynamic power is 2940 at 4 ohms!!! HOLY CRAP! Are you sure that I'm not gonna kill my poor JLs. I know they're underrated but this is definitely going to push it and like you said. I'm going to the comp and not exactly knowing what I'm doing.

The manual says two runs of 4 ga. Do you think I need to step up to 1/0 and a larger alt.?

all you need to do is wire it up to get that 2.67 ohm load. Make sure you feed the amp plenty of power, and keep you gain nice and low and give those subs a nice clean signal. There is no way you should kill those subs with that amp if your smart about it.
Hope you enjoy, that set up must sound really nice!

I would upgrade your power line one way or the other....the alt should be fine......

I think that spec sheet has a typo....it should probably read 1,810w @ 4ohms and 2,450 @ 1ohm......makes more sense to me..... in which case you should be fine with that amp....roughly 2,000w over 3 W6s will be loud as hell, just be careful with the gains and you should be good to go......

Thanks BigRedGuy, I don't think that it's a typo though. There is one way to wire them up to 2 ohms. Any lower than that there is a different way the amp needs to be wired, using a jumper wire across a couple terminals. Strangest thing I've ever seen. This is why the output is substantially different. No matter what, I'm gonna give it a try!

Thanks everyone!
